I turned (32) yesterday shhhh

Is it crazy that I love my thirties but dread each birthday??  I think I may be losing it a bit.  I mean my twenties were filled with school and bad jobs and obnoxious people I had to be nice to.  My thirties are filled with work I love, school only when I feel like it and great people whom I love and cherish – plus my blog which I also love!

However every time a birthday comes around, a sense of panic fills me – I am getting older.  I have passed all the fun milestones – sweet sixteen, 18 (I could vote), 19 (I could legally drink), 21 (I could legally drink in the U.S.A) and 30.  I feel like the next true milestone is 50 and that is years away (THANK GOD).  I love being in my thirties – this will be the decade I will have a child or children – the most important thing to me.  I will probably buy a home, develop my friendships even further and travel to numerous countries, building more memories than I can fit into my big head!  I love it.  I look forward to it, but on January 9th, I had a panick attack that left me crying in my bed at 11:00 at night.

I’m a freak right?  Maybe freak isn’t a nice word…but that is how I felt.  When I woke up yesterday, I felt no different then I had being 31, I wasn’t excited or sad, happy or mad.  I was just me – and I continued my day like any other day – more excited about going to Cuba and meeting Irish guy later this month, and going to Vegas in April with my mom and aunt and hopefully receiving a transfer to an office closer to home.  The birthdate had nothing to do with any of it.  This year will be amazing because I will make it amazing – not because my age changed.

Last night my dad took me, my brother, sister-in-law, sushi bf and his girlfriend D to the Keg for dinner – I LOVE THE KEG.  Just had to put that out there.  I came home and crashed, belly full and ready to work my last day before my CUBA vacation.  I’m taking a blogging break people – but I will return with stories, not as juicy as the gossip from my trip to DR, but still great stories non the less!

Sometimes I am amazed at how much can be done in a weekend

It’s only two days and one evening.  I mean I don’t get home till after 5 on Friday, yet every weekend, this one being no exception, I complete so much and tend to enjoy myself no matter what I am doing!!!

Friday started a new ritual which will continue throughout summer. I picked up Newbie, took him home to get his clothes and baseball stuff and then we went straight to baseball.  Newbie plays with the Wolfpack which is a rec league team but they are good – really good.  They won both games Friday night and getting to know this new team was great!  Newbies Sister-in-law was there as her hubby also plays for Wolfpack.  It’s always a good time catching up with the girlfriends and seeing old friends again.

After baseball. Newbie, his dad and step-mom and me all went to Markham Station for dinner!  Of course we all ate breakfast because that is what you do at Markham Station!!  Home fries – I love you!

Saturday was Biker Dude’s wake.  Newbie and I drove up to Bobcaygeon, spent some time with my mom, Aunt and the rest of our family and her friends and said goodbye to her husband.  It was a nice day and everyone whom my mom wanted there was there.  It is so gut-wrenching to see someone say goodbye to the person whom they love.  Spreading his ashes was a peaceful moment and I could tell that even though me and him were never close – his friends, family and wife will miss and love him dearly.

Me, Mom, Brother, Sister-in-law and Aunt G

We had to leave Bobcaygeon early because Chase (Newbies nephew) was celebrating his 2nd birthday!!!  Birthdays are so exciting!!  Especially when they are so young and they don’t fully comprehend whats going on, but are just so excited to have cake and get presents.  Of course since his mother insisted he needed socks – I bought him 39 pairs!  His favourite toy by far was the Little People’s School Bus – care of Newbie!  He loved it!  Getting to spend time with Chases mom and dad was great and seeing Newbies family is always a great thing.    For what started out a sad day – saying goodbye to family, turned into a lovely event – spending the evening with my chosen family – my friends!

Chase playing with his new bus!!

Sunday I got busy!  I did laundry, groceries, cleaned my room, cleaned the bathroom, did dishes, took out the recycling, got gas for the car and a car wash since the Bobcaygeon bug population was decimated by my windshield and went to the dollar store for my mentee mothers day craft!  Oh ya and cause I wasn’t busy enough, I stopped by the bank and deposited a few cheques!  By the time Newbie came home from work, I was ready to sleep.  However we needed to eat, so after making dinner and lunch for today for us (and my dad), we played Cribbage with my new Cribbage board.

Now, I played Crib years ago with my nana.  But that was YEARS ago.  Newbie re-taught me with my iPhone.  He is an awesome teacher, because our first game played together and I beat him!!  He wasn’t happy.  Men are such sore losers!  LOL…but I know he will win the next time we play cause he is actually MUCH more strategic than I am.  It just worked in my favour this game and I had a blast teasing him!

Falling asleep last night was a peaceful experience, knowing I would wake up and only have two days of work this week – surgery is Wednesday – pray for me people please!!

I hope you are all having a lovely Monday!

A long weekend is just what the Doctor ordered

Okay so my doctor didn’t actually say I need a long weekend, but I know in my heart, if I told her every detail of my life, I am sure she would recommend it!

There is so much that I am quite ready to talk about yet on my blog, things that I need to keep private to protect someone else…but lets just say I had a pretty damn near perfect weekend.

The one thing I can talk about is my dinner on Saturday night at the Keg restaurant in Scarborough.  Now, those who read this blog know that Makimono is by far my FAVOURITE restaurant, but the Keg does come in very close.  There is just something about the atmosphere, the servers and the food that always makes me feel wined and dined.  I went there with my father, brother and sister-in-law.  This was to celebrate my dad’s birthday from last week because T got sick and we couldn’t go.  Taking my dad out to dinner is always a treat since he doesn’t go out – ever really – anywhere.  But he does love a good Keg dinner and this was no exception!

We all start off with appetizers, because we know if we are having Keg, we go ALL out!  My brother, T and I had always have baked garlic shrimp – so yummy.  The bread was a bit hard, but the garlic sauce made it soften right up!  Garlic, cheese and shrimp so freaking good!  My dad got escargot.  No one else would be caught dead with escargot, but my dad loves it and has it every time we go!  Of course we all got alcohol too except T who isn’t much of a drinker.  Me and my brother got Caesars and dad had a southern comfort with 7-up.

For our main dishes, we all differ somewhat.  My brother got a peppercorn steak with a shrimp and scallop medley on top.  He got the loaded baked potato and slices of tomato for flavour.  T got the terriyaki steak with garlic mashed potatoes and dad got the prime rib with loaded baked potatoes with a side order of mushrooms.  My meal, which is my favourite meal there is the surf and turf prime rib with lobster tail and garlic mashed potatoes.  I LOVE LOBSTER!

Such a great meal!

Everything was cooked to perfection and I am pretty sure I ate mine in about 30 seconds flat.  In fact I ate so quickly I had time to run out and say hi to a friend I had been looking forward to seeing who always puts a smile on my face who was there to have dinner with family as well.
This was an amazing night out with my family, we don’t get to do it often (I mean really none of our diets or wallets can afford the Keg on the regular, but once in a while is a great time).
Daddy and me

Overall, I would not have given up this long weekend for anything, spending time with family and friends is always a good time, and sharing a wonderful meal with wonderful people make it all the more exciting and I can’t wait for the next long weekend which is…EASTER!  WTF!  This will not do.  I need to book a day off in March.  I cannot wait over a month for another long weekend…

1 more day…

…of being 30 then I am technically Nikilee31!  Although I won’t be changing my blog post, I will no longer be 30 – but in my 30’s!  Does that count??  For me it will!

Friday I went over to my girl K’s house for a night of Dexter!  We finished season 1.  It’s disturbing how much I love this show.  I mean Dexter is a vigilante murderer who fills his passion for killing by killing bad people – men and women a like.  We watched the whole first season in two sittings – this tells you what a great show it was!  On to season 2 K!!!

Saturday I had to weigh in – up a pound!  ARGHHH!!!  Somehow my plan to lose 4 pds by Christmas and an additional 6 pounds by my trip to the Dominican did not happen – in fact I’ve been up up and up every freaken week!  Oh boy.  I’ve decided I need some incentive.  So here we go:

Lose 5 pounds: buy a new sweater!

Lose 10 pounds: buy a new purse!

Lose 20 pounds: go away for a weekend to Niagara Falls

Lose 25 pounds: Buy a new Ipod!

There you have it!  My incentive for 2012!  I want a new sweater that’s warm and pretty and work appropriate hence why that is my first incentive!  Once I get closer to the 25 pound mark I will add new incentives!!!

After weight watchers I had a wonderful hot stone massage booked – my gift to me!  If you have not had a hot stone massage before – please do!  I went to Uptown Spa www.uptownspa.com and had Barbara the Masseuse give me the hot stone massage.  I was all warm and toasty and relaxed – time to pick up my girl K, go movie shopping, grocery shopping, watch some mindless Jersey Shore and get ready for dinner!

Dinner was with K and the Romanian.  We went to Jack Astors in Scarborough!  Three words – Garlic Pan Bread!  YUMMM!  Of course with cheese!!!  Having dinner with K and the Romanian was great and a perfect way to celebrate my almost birthday!  I like to see K happy, it makes me happy – she deserves it!

Sunday I woke up, turned on the computer and watched my church service from home.  I have been having the same problems with my (bum) lower back as before so lying in bed watching Pastor Bob do his thing seemed much more comforting then sitting up in church.  The passage to remember for this week:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  1John 1:9

If you want to watch the whole sermon please google “Global Kingdom Ministries Live” and watch January 8th – message.  I hope to get back in the Church soon because I feel – unwell – when I’m not there regularly, but this is the next best thing for me!

Question for the day: how do you celebrate your birthday?

Have a good week everyone!

XOXO Nikilee
